Periodontics is the branch of dentistry dealing with diseases related to gums. The term gum disease or Periodontal disease describes a microbial infection that gradually destroys the tissue surrounding and supporting natural teeth. ("Periodontal" means "around the tooth.") "Gum disease begins with plaque depositing on your teeth, without you being aware of it.
